Patrol Store Gets Sporty with the Adidas GSG9s

by Lianeh on Nov.15, 2011, under Patrol Store

What people have said about the Adidas GSG9s is they cannot imagine ever buying anything else. They are incredibly light weight and have been known to be love at first fit! When you try them on they feel like a pair of slippers and that comfort stays with you.

If your job often requires you to be on your feet for hours at a time and you get very hot, tired feet then these are the boots for you. The technology inside these mean when it’s cold your feet are toasty and when it’s hot your feet are nice and cool.

Many people use the Adidas GSG9 for riding their bike, because GSG’s are made of a very soft leather they are easy on foot controls, therefore this would make them perfect for driving.

The Adidas GSG9 are also fully waterproof, not that we reccommend you stood in a bucket, but they certainly wouldn’t catch you out in the rain!

They also look really cool, and not like regualr, clompy military or police boots. These are sporty in a kind of “step in the boxing ring” way. Don’t be put off by the price. Think of them as an investment. With an average feedback score of 9.5 out of 10, you can’t go wrong with a pair of Adidas GSG9. And with Christmas fast approaching, personally I would add these to my wish list.

Available in 2 sizes, the Adidas GSG9.2 which is the 8 inch version and the Adidas GSG9.4 which is the 6 inch version.

Extensive Range of Multi-Tools

by Lianeh on Nov.01, 2011, under Patrol Store

How did we ever manage before multitools were invented?

This is one useful bit of kit that is capable of handling many different applications according to your current requirements. When thinking of multi-tools our thoughts would have turned to the seemingly fantastic quality Swiss Army Knife that seems to have been around for an eternity and indeed these are still the same high quality pieces of kit that they have always been. Beware of cheap and inferior imitations though…you should look for the names Victorinox or Wenger as the quality benchmarks. At Patrolstore we stock the Victorinox knives that are fantastically manufactured and are as useful as they’ve ever been.

In recent years the multitool has taken on a new face and is most commonly of the plier type probably made famous initially by Leatherman. Again, there are many cheaper models on the market and you should only buy a brand that you can trust like Leatherman, Gerber or the all new Bear Grylls range, available from Patrolstore. Go and take a look at our diverse range of mutitools and never be caught out without something to effect a repair.

As an example, check out our best selling Multi-Tool, the reknowned Suspension Multi Tool. With more features than Batman’s Utility Belt, this tool is very versatile and includes needle-nose pliers, wire cutters, fine edge blade, serrated edge blade, saw, scissors, cross-point screwdriver, small and medium flat blade screwdrivers, a can opener, bottle opener and a lanyard hole. With all this power it only weighs around 9oz and is smaller than the average mobile phone.

The stainless steel handles of the Gerber Suspension fold back to reveal a 2 ¼ inch pair of needle-nose pliers. These are cleverly spring-loaded to open automatically. If it’s precision work you need it for then the front ¾ inch of the pliers has a sharp point. The flat surfaces and fine serrations are what you would expect from any quality set of needle-nose pliers. The spring loaded opening mechanism of the pliers makes them very easy to reposition.

The casing of the Gerber Suspension is constructed of stainless steel, helping resist corrosion, whilst the skeletonised frame should prevent moisture from being trapped within the tool.

The blades can be opened in a one-handed motion and are of a drop-point design to protect the user by minimising the damage from an unintended jab.

Overall, the Gerber Suspension is great value for what it does. It’s rugged, substantial, compact, versatile and affordable. It would also make a great gift for somebody…and Christmas is only 8 weeks away after all…

Danner Boots Kicking In at Patrol Store

by Lianeh on Oct.21, 2011, under Patrol Store

Just landed at Patrol Store HQ is the new range of Danner Boots. With their built to last, awesome features you can guarantee that they will be there for you when you need them most; and I don’t mean in the cuddly TLC manner as they have some serious attitude!

First off we have the Danner Acadia 8″ Black Boot. With a Gore-Tex breathable 100% waterproof lining, you can be sure you can trapse or dance through puddles without getting your feet wet (though Patrol Store doesn’t suggest the latter…each to their own of course!), and even keep you dry in extreme conditions.

Engineered with durability, they are anti-scuff, anti-tear, anti-abrasion…Danner have certainly upped the anti with these Acadia boots. They are built for stability and the lace-to-toe gives you that feeling of extra security; not with the intention of making you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The Vibram® Kletterlift sole is designed purely for comfort and durability, whilst the heel provides lightweight comfort as well as outstanding shock absorption. You can’t really go wrong with the Danner Acadia really.

On the other hand we have the Danner Kinetic range. Available in four different versions, the Danner Kinetics have taken the toughest materials and put them together with softness to give you a boot that is hard on the outside and chewy on the middle, or is that Dime bars? Let’s try that again, the Danner Kinetic’s are tough on the outside and soft inside…I know a few people like that. Just like the Acadia, these boots are built to last. Made using the toughest full-grain leather known to man and rip-stop nylon, throw in Ultralon footbeds and deep, cushioned midsoles and you come up with the Danner Kinetic. They are also responsive and agile thanks to them being lightweight. The Danner Kinetic range is available in 6″ and 8″ as well as a Gore-Tex version, also in 6″ and 8″.

Tactical Bags just got even better!

by Lianeh on Oct.07, 2011, under Patrol Store

Why not check out the excellent Op.Zulu Duty Kit Police Bag with it’s great range of features such as a large main compartment and a unique water bottle holder strap. Attached inside of the lid are compartments for phones, stationery, handcuffs and/or a pocket torch, pen/pencil holders and a handy D ring on a short strap for cliping keys and/or a small clip light.

As I pause for breath to tell you more of the Op.Zulu Duty Kit Police Bag’s wide range of features I can also say that it comes with a free Op.Zulu 750ml water bottle which is perfect size to go fit in the handy bottle holder inside of the main compartment.

Now, back to the features (inhale). On the front of this stonking bag there are three compartments handy for storing stuff. It could be for anything really. Two of them are sealed off with velcro flaps and the other is perfect for holding a C or D-Cell torch. On the back there is a padded compartment which is suitable for a slim ring binder or most 15″ laptops.

Not only do you get all this but there are two side compartments which are large enough to fit an iPad/Kindle or a Notebook. The Op.Zulu Duty Kit Police Bag certainly has brought carrying around things to the 21st Century!

The best thing about this bag of all though is the ergonomic handles made of Duraflex which is far better than the nylon inferiors that are also around.

All in all, the Op.Zulu Duty Kit Police Bag is a solid, sound investment. So why not Bag Yourself a Bargain today and get one of these bad boys exclusive to PatrolStore.com

Ten Years On…

by Lianeh on Sep.07, 2011, under Patrol Store

911NeverForgetNew York City, September 11, 2001. It started off just like any other day but ended as a day that would never be forgotten.

Now, 2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the downing of Flight 93. It was an event that changed the face of the world forever and one that is reflected in our everyday lives. We promise to never forget the sacrifices that were made that day and to honour all that continue to serve and protect today.

This Sunday, we hope that those of you who received the commemorative 9-11 memorial caps will be wearing them, which were kindly donated to us by 5.11 Tactical for this very reason, and join us to remember our American cousins who were cruelly taken from our world on that fateful day. And the threat to all nations is still there, please stay safe everyone.

Patrol Store will never forget…

British Weather

by Lianeh on Sep.06, 2011, under Patrol Store

Having gotten soaked on my way to work at Patrol Store HQ this morning I thought I would take the time to moan about the great British weather. If there is one country in the world that could have the capability of creating four seasons in one day, that would be Britain. Many times I have stepped out to come to work in the morning unprepared for whatever weather was on it’s way. It’s just deceiving! One minute the skies could be blue, the next minute the heavens could open, and you think to yourself “why does it always rain on me?” (well, it certainly wasn’t because I lied when I was 17).
Working at Patrol Store I see a great number of waterproof coats that go out the door and I wonder why I don’t do the smart thing and invest in one of these. After all, there are plenty to choose from. And what benefits I would get…I could stay warm and dry, then perhaps I wouldn’t need to moan about the weather. With the likes of a Web-Tex Soft Shell Jacket to keep me dry, a 5.11 3-in-1 Parka or even a 5.11 5-in-1 Jacket, I would certainly be making a very good and wise investment if I was to get one of those.
Not only was I soaked from head, it was also to toe. As I was standing at the bus stop getting drenched I couldn’t help thinking that I should be wearing a pair of Lowa Mountain GTX. With the Gore-Tex technology I would certainly have no worries about having wet feet. The benefits of these boots would not only keep my feet warm and dry but they will also keep them comfortable.

Belt Pouches

by Mattm on Jul.25, 2011, under Patrol Store

If you are looking for high quality belt pouches then PatrolStore has a wide selection of black belt mounted police and security pouches as well as military MOLLE pouches in Olive, Sand, Coyote Tan and the new Multi-cam. The Range of brands stocked includes, 5.11 Pouches, Blackhawk Pouches, Op. Zulu belt equipment and Viper, offering everything from radio and torch holders to key hooks and multipocket patrol pouches.

Op. Zulu is the leading brand among Police Officers and security workers offering outstanding quality and value with its aggressive prices. With a core range of belt pouches and a line of torches and earpieces being developed alongside two kit bags, Op. Zulu has a focused selection of key products.

Viper products are exceptional popular within the security industry and the Viper brand name is probably the strongest in security circles. Viper offer a broad range of security equipment, not just belt pouches, including coats, SIA badge holders, clip on ties, hand tally counters etc etc. Covering almost everything required to work in security.

5.11 and Blackhawk are more expensive than either Op. Zulu or Viper and are aimed much more at the specialist military market. Although more expensive the build quality is exceptionally high and caters very well for the niche needs of Special Forces and similar hostile environment operators. Both Blackhawk and 5.11 focus on the MOLLE mounting platform which can be used to attach to a 50mm/2 inch duty belt but are designed to be used on MOLLE compatible vests, bags or belt platforms.

Web-Tex also offer a range of military equipment, including belt pouches, which is more economically priced than the specialist pouch manufacturers yet still offers robust functionality. Web-Tex gear is no only used by army and military personnel, but is popular with airsoft and paintball players who need replica equipment built on military spec but at a reasonable price point.

So whatever your belt pouch needs talk to PatrolStore for the best products at the best prices in the UK.

Help For Heroes Trek Equipment Review

by Mattm on May.31, 2011, under Patrol Store

As promised here is my full rundown on all the kit I used during my Help for Heroes Charity Challenge.

First up 5.11 RucksackRush 24 Black . I grabbed this at the last moment and was gutted when I realized it didn’t come with a hip belt. To start off I was a bit worried as I was carrying a minimum of 4 litres of water plus a days kit, however I managed to adapt the bag by attaching a 5.11 LBE Belt to the MOLLE on the side of the bag with two 6mm carabiners (pics to follow). It worked really well, although even with the belt undone the bag was actually very comfortable on the shoulders. The hydration bladder (sold separately) fitted comfortably in the specially designed pocket and tube management system made staying hydrated a breeze. The rigid board in the back gave the bag plenty of support making it more comfortable and transferring more of the weight to the hips than a colleagues Blackhawk Cyclone. The 5.11 also boasted a superior pocket system that allowed subdivision of kit into easily accessible sections no matter what…The Sunglass pocket was especially neat!

Next up trousers and coats. Again I went for 5.11 Trousers – Taclites specifically as I was walking in the day when temperatures could be +30c or down to +5c in rain or hail if the weather turned…..which it inevitably did, pouring with rain for the best part of my second day. The taclites pro pants were ideal, cool in the heat and warm even when wet, and then drying incredibly fast. Since we turned in shortly after dark when the temp really dropped really warm trousers were not necessary. The coat was again 5.11, this time the black 3 in 1 5.11 Jacket. I separated the inner fleece and outer waterproof jacket as layering on and off was more convenient as the weather changed. The waterproof outer was always in and out of the top of my pack keeping my dry and sweat free, while the fleece proved invaluable when we stopped on a high windswept spot or in the evenings.

For base layers I went for DriFire over Under Armour Tactical as I found the DriFire doubled as a regular T shirt more readily than an under armour top. The Ts were light weight, moisture wicking and comfortable at all times, dried quickly and stayed fresh for days at a time without washing (me or the shirt).

Mid layers I went for Blackhawk Cotton Shirts and Blackhawk Ops Jacket which were ideal for comfort, style and compact size. The Ops Jacket especially provided excellent insulation for its size and shower resistance in drizzle/mist.

Most importantly BOOTS, there could be no other choice than LOWA Mountain GTX Boots. I have reviewed these before and cant say alot more about them. Fantastic comfort straight out of the box, well waterproof even when fording streams, great grip, breathable and the 8″ ankle height provides all the support you need.

Last but not least in the apparel section is Accessories! First on the list Oakley Standard Issue Sunglasses. I went for the Half Jackets. These provided outstanding optics and UVA/B protection, but did scratch surprisingly easily when dropped on a stone pathway! Next up Shemag. I went blue and white as I didn’t want to be to overtly military in my appearance. This was a great addition to my ensemble especially after sun burn on my neck on the first day providing warmth at night, sun protection in the day and keeping the sweat off in the humid conditions of Machu Pitchu. Plus it makes you look like you look the part! Third on the list; Trousers Twists, much neglected by civilians and at less than £2 a pair they are an investment that keeps paying dividends, keeping your trousers clean and dry, your laces tucked away to prevent snagging and a neat professional appearance. Finally Sure Fire EP3 Sonic Ear defenders now when your team mate snores like a possessed wilder-beasts and all that separates you is a think sheet of tent canvas these are worth the money several times over, trust me when I say cheap “airplane” foam ear defenders just wont cut it!

Finally we have insect repellent. I took two different types, Deet Insect repellent for my clothes and Avon Skin So Soft and Fresh Dy Body Oil as mosquito repellent Skin so soft and fresh is much easier to apply to face, hair and forehead without worrying about sweat washing it into your eyes and mouth….Deet stings your eyes like a suicide tequila and ruins the taste of even the best lunch! Between the two I was insect bite free for the whole week! (Though it’s hard to judge which is more effective when used in conjunction.)

EDIT:
Like a dads nightmare at Christmas I almost forgot the socks! I worked my way between 3 pairs on rotation (taking my boots off at the end required an open window and a strong stomach). They were 5.11 Level 1 9″ socks – the most comfortable (no I was not sponsored by 5.11 I paid for the kit myself) Viper Coolmax Socks - stayed the freshest and Extremities Super Hikers - the warmest.

I hope you enjoyed this review, if you would like to support our wounded troops please remember to donate to Help4Heroes!

Cheers,

Matthew Milner
