Police Boots
by Mattm on Feb.14, 2011, under Patrol Store
A good pair of Police Boots are essential for any police officer to perform their duties safely and comfortably. Most forces have stopped issuing police boots but still supply officers with a “Boot Allowance” which allows them to purchase their own boots and recover at least some of the cost. Some officers may only wish to spend what is covered by their allowance and are prepared to accept basic functionality, other police men or women prefer to spend over their budget and invest their own money in a fully featured pair of boots that will give them the highest levels of comfort, protection and agility whilst performing their duties.
At the bottom end of the cost and feature spectrum you have the range of Grafters Boots. These police boots do not offer an EN certified slip sole and so may not be suitable for use in hazardous environments such as ports or industrial sites. As standard they come with a 6 month warranty and will serve light users well for a good period of time.
Similarly prices but packing an EN certified sole and a full 12 month warranty are the Magnum Panther 8 Boots, which also feature a size zip and the Magnum Classic Boot which is just a touch more expensive but has a reputation for excellence among police forces world wide. Magnum Police Boots are probably the most well know in the industry and offer a range of more advanced spec boots right up to the £105 Magnum Elite Force with Ion Mask water repelling technology.
A popular range of police boot that has crossed over from their military background are the Lowa Army Boots. They offer a tougher, but heavier boot, designed for combat on rough terrain but still exceptional comfortable in urban environments they offer superb protection when taking on more aggressive tactical situations.
Many forces discourage the use of toe Caped Police boots, but they are suitable to be used in certain situations. Magnum offer an 8 Inch All Leather Stealth Force Composite Toe Cap with a solid shank which is ideal for occurrences when additional protection is required.
Handcuff Keys
by Mattm on Feb.01, 2011, under Patrol Store
Handcuff Keys come in many shapes and forms, one thing that most officers agree on though is that the issue key is just too small! Even with a compliant detainee and without slash resistant gloves a small fiddly cuff key just makes the job harder than it needs to be.
At Patrol Store we stock a range of different keys from our basic Asp Original Handcuff Key at £1.99 through to the near indestructible Solid Shank Custody Key at £11.99 and the Streamlight Cuffmate complete with LED light at £13.49 .
The asp key at £1.99 is an ideal backup or replacement key, at that price you can afford to buy a couple and keep one in the glove box, on on your belt and one in your locker without breaking the bank. Although nothing fancy it will open all Asp and Hiatt cuffs and has a pin on the end for double locking.
At the mid level the two most popular products from ZT are the Round Swivel and Carbon Fiber options both at £6.49. Whilst the carbon fiber version is lighter, it will shatter under pressure unlike its steal counter part which will maintain its integrity under higher pressure. Both keys come with double locking pins on the reverse end and a steel keyring loop.
The one handcuff key that doesn’t come with a locking pin boasts another feature though which makes it a standout from the crowd. The ZT Cuff Key with Window Punch is to be fair more window punch with emergency key than key with window punch. At £6.99 it’s very economically priced too.
So whatever you are looking for we have an option to suit!

LED Lenser Torches
by Mattm on Nov.17, 2010, under Patrol Store
LED Lenser Torches are fast becoming the most popular torches with UK police officers and police officers world wide. The Led Lenser Police Tech Focus Torch is specifically designed to target the torch needs of police users providing a bright white 105 lumen beam and comes in at a very reasonable price point. The Led Lenser T7 and P7 Torches are slightly more expensive than the Police Tech Torch but boast a much more impressive 200 lumen output. All three Led Lenser Torches run on AAA batteries which are cheap and readily available in an emergency rather than the less common CR123 battery sticks. The Police Tech takes 3 AAA batteries and both the T7 Torch and the P7 run on four AAA batteries.
As the name suggests the LED Lenser torches run on high power Gallium LEDs rather than filament bulbs which affords the torches higher output, longer battery run time and overall longer lifespan of the torch. The bodies are machined from aluminium that is both tough and light weight with a scratch resistant black finish.
One of the major advantages of the Led Lenser range over cheaper alternatives is the focusable beam which can be adjusted between flood and spot by extending and retracting the head. An additional useful feature is the ability to switch between maximum output for when you really need it and a lower energy saving setting for prolonged use.
All Led Lenser torches come with batteries and a Nylon belt pouch (which is compatible with 2” police duty belts) included in the price. The pouch has a Velcro closure and the belt mounting is closed with both Velcro and a pop stud to ensure it stays on your belt even when under extreme circumstances.
All in all the LED Lenser Range of Police Torches provide some of the best value for money on the market and the popularity with the police and emergency services is no surprise.
Hatch Operator Hard Knuckle Gloves
by Mattm on Jul.05, 2010, under Patrol Store
Hatch Hard Knuckle Gloves are made of a mix of goatskin and Nomex providing flash protection whilst retaining the dexterity required for handling weapons, radios, keys or operating a vehicle. The hard knuckle feature also provides additional protection for those likely to be exposed to impacts like breaching teams, public order officers or combat infantry troops.
The Hatch Operator HK glove is also designed with the marksman in mind with a PVC non slip coating on the tip of the index and middle finger providing excellent trigger control as is, but for those who want more tactile sensation the patented cut ring allows the tip of the index finger to be cut off without the remaining edge from unravelling.
Similarly this Hatch operator glove bears drivers in mind with the padded palm reducing the vibrations wearers suffer when driving for long periods or on rough terrain.
Ever popular in the USA, Hatch Tactical Gloves are becoming established in the UK.
Freeloader Pico Solar Charger
by Mattm on Jun.28, 2010, under Patrol Store
The Freeloader Pico is a nifty little solar charger that fits in your pocket but packs a powerful punch. I was dubious at first about how effective the Freeloader Pico Solar charger would be, especially with the traditionally week British sunshine but I have been more than pleasantly surprised. Normally I leave it on the dashboard of my car so that it is constantly charging even in low sun levels and it’s most often when I have driven somewhere and forgotten to bring my phone charger. It takes about 30 mins to charge my phone (a Nokia E71) which goes from dead to ¾ full in one go.
The Pico comes with four attachments for small pin Nokia phones, Sony Ericsson, G Series Samsung and a mini USB to fit most PDAs and digital devices. To fit an Iphone/Ipod you need the Freeloader Pico Iphone/Ipod Adapter (sold separately). The mini USB adapter can also be used to plug the Pico into a standard USB port and you can charge the device from your PC.
I also picked up a Freeloader Pico Black Gel Case too which offers some protection and also gives the Pico a lower visual profile for leaving in the car.
