The stainless steel handles of the Gerber Suspension fold back to reveal a 2 ¼ inch pair of needle-nose pliers. These are cleverly spring-loaded to open automatically. If it’s precision work you need it for then the front ¾ inch of the pliers has a sharp point. The flat surfaces and fine serrations are what you would expect from any quality set of needle-nose pliers. The spring loaded opening mechanism of the pliers makes them very easy to reposition.

The casing of the Gerber Suspension is constructed of stainless steel, helping resist corrosion, whilst the skeletonised frame should prevent moisture from being trapped within the tool.

The blades can be opened in a one-handed motion and are of a drop-point design to protect the user by minimising the damage from an unintended jab.

When I heard that the Fingerless Fleece Mitts with Hand Warmers were coming in to Patrol Store I put my name down straight away to buy a set. Being a keen photographer in my spare time I needed something that would keep my hands warm but still allow me to take photos without the restriction of standard gloves.

I’d looked at other fingerless gloves before but none of them would suit me as my hands would still get cold when out in the elements. That’s where the Fingerless Fleece Mitts are perfect as they feature an inner pouch where I could slot the included Hand Warmers in and keep my hands warm whilst maintaining full control of the task I was doing.

The Hand Warmers themselves heat to a comfortable 50-70 degrees Celsius and last up to 7 hours and are very simple to get heated up because as soon as you open the packet the air circulates around them and the magic begins to happen after a little gentle persuasion by shaking and kneading the insulate fleece material inside the envelope.

The only drawback I would say about the Hand Warmers themselves are that you only get one use out of them but being a reasonable price I will start buying them in bulk so I always have plenty spare for when I need them.

The Fingerless Fleece Mitts with Hand Warmers would be perfect for anyone out on patrol, securing doors or any task that involves you being outside in the cold for a lengthy time.

The TX 3.0 flashlight from Gerber is a very good torch for outdoor activities or rough use. It is a very tough, general purpose light. Its tactical body is made from Type II anodized aluminium with a black matte finish.

Powered by 3 x AA alkaline batteries it gives a good burn time of 50 hours. Inside the bezel of the Gerber TX 3.0 is a direct driven Luxeon III LED which is shockproof and provides a bright spot of clean white light from a 51 lumen output, punching a 150 foot hole in the darkness.

The surface has a slight granularity feel to it and around the head and tail are flat panels cut in the curved surface which aids grip and adds to the overall appearance. There are also two flat panels cut into either side of the light body, making it very comfortable to use. The unit is very well built and shows a high degree of quality.

Inside the head is the typical internal reflection collimator lens that is typical for a Luxeon. The lens is slightly recessed in the head for protection.

The output of the Gerber TX 3.0 is in the form of a very white light whilst the beam itself consists of a round hotspot in the centre, surrounded by a diamond shaped spot, with a further wide, round spill-beam.

The switch is made from a small, rubber covered clickie in the centre of the tailcap. Press on it gently for momentary use or press harder for a constant light. The only downside to this is that the clicking action is very difficult to detect and it may click on without realising. However by rotating the tailcap anti-clockwise by half a turn it locks out the mechanism and prevents accidental activation.

The tail-cap also has an O-ring which is generously lubricated with silicone grease which helps to prevent water from getting inside the torch.

The ergonomic shape of the Gerber TX 3.0 and its size makes it very comfortable in the hand.

The Magnum Elite II 8” is the top of the range of police boots, packed with high spec features yet light weight and comfortable enough for a long shift pounding the pavement.

 The upper on the Magnum Elite II boot is a mix of water resistant leather, and 1150 Denier Nylon giving plenty of ankle support but keeping the weight of the boot down.   The Aerospace mesh collar lining draws air up through the boot and vents warm moist air at top of the boot and the flex cuff comfort collar will minimise rubbing or chaffing.  The Sympatex membrane makes the Magnum Elite II fully waterproof yet still breathable to minimising the problems caused by wet feet.  Not only that but the Magnum Elite II comes with a Dr-Lex lining and has had an antibacterial treatment to both the lining and the footbed to maintain hygiene levels and wick sweat away from the foot as quickly as possible.

The sole on the Magnum Elite II is EN347-1 Compliant and its aggressive TyreTread Design gives maximum traction even on wet or oily surfaces.  The composite shank provides maximum protection, whilst the polyurethane midsole and FPS Footbed with Dual Shock pads provide impact protection and shock mitigation.

Overall the Magnum Elite II boot is a very well thought out boot and will serve users very well over the coming winter months be it out on patrol, standing for long shifts at events or doing a night on the doors, the Magnum Elite 2 will keep your feet warm and dry whatever the weather.

It’s a common cliché, but nothing is more annoying than loosing your pen.  These handy metal pen clips will clip onto almost anything; FPN holders, clip boards, jacket lapel, shirt pocket, folder cover, pouch top, bag strap or writing pad, the list goes on and on and will keep your pen right where you need it.  We were first introduced to these from the medical industry, nurses, paramedic and doctors had them clipped to themselves or their equipment and as soon as their colleagues saw them, they picked up some for themselves as well.  It soon became apparent that these nifty little clips would be a great addition to any police or security workers kit, keeping up to 3 pens readily available but safe and secure and with no risk of leaking in your pocket!

 Once you have a couple of these pen clips you’ll soon notice them appearing on your friends and co workers too… (That or they will keep asking to borrow your pen!)

The Suunto Vector is a great watch. Don’t be put off by the bulkiness of the face though as it incorporates a lot of features through a digital display and with the Suunto name comes reliability. Suunto are well known for Replacing Your Luck when it comes to watches and the Vector certainly lives up to its brand motto.

Featuring an altimeter which can be easily accessed by pressing the mode button once, the Suunto Vector gives you readings up to 9000m or 29500ft – meaning you can make it to the top of Everest without the altimeter on your watch giving up on you. Whether you can do the same is up to you. As well giving you a high altitude range it also indicates your vertical speed and a total ascent/descent whilst storing it in a handy logbook so you can keep track of your achievements. The altitude alarm goes off if you have programmed in a certain altitude that you would like to reach, letting you know that you have made it to that point.

The Suunto Vector is not just a watch; it is an instrument for outdoor sports persons or adventurers. That doesn’t mean you can play music on it though, but with what it has to offer you in features you will sing its praises.

The helpful and easy to use barometer on the Suunto Vector has a four-day weather memory telling you the atmospheric pressure for the last six hours in one-hour intervals, and six-hour intervals thereafter. Very handy if you need to follow changes in pressure and for helping to forecast changes in weather conditions, i.e. storms. It also has a barometric trend indicator, estimating the measurement at one-hour intervals. The sea-level pressure is easily set and information can be obtained through newspapers, local news and radio weather reports, local airports or through the Internet under local weather. With a temperature gauge range of –20 degrees to 60 degrees Celsius (-5 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit) it is best read off the wrist as body heat affects an accurate reading.

As with most compasses on watches, the one built into the Suunto Vector will need to be calibrated before use, especially when in extreme cold weather and every time the battery is replaced. The compass is easy to read and features a North indicator, bearing to a 1 degree resolution and bearing tracking

Also, as you’d expect with any watch, it tells the time. As well as that basic, important function the Suunto Vector can be set in 12hr or 24hr mode, has a stopwatch and countdown timer.

The instruction book that comes with the Suunto Vector is scary at first glance but out of vast amounts of pages, depending on your language of choice, the instructions average at 46 pages.

Who doesn’t need a carabiner these days? Trac Pac Carabiners are handy clips that come in two sizes with the option of the lockable kind to insure you don’t lose your valuables.

Constructed of black steel and set in an offset D-Shape, the gate opening end is bigger than the end where the hinge is so you can easily attach and detach items as well as it allowing for more or bigger items to be attached.
